By Adjournment On Thursday the 30th. Day of June 1743 .

Order of sessions for
Suppressing of disorders in
the Parish of Saint James
Clerkenwell }

It being represented unto this Court that it is requisite and necessary and may be
of Service to the publick that same endeavours should be used for the suppressing
of loose Idle and disorderly persons such as players of Interludes, Gamesters, and
other Vagabonds in the parish of St. James Clerkenwell within Finsbury Division
in the County of Middx who have infested and do containe to infest the said parish
to the prejudice of Youth corruption of good manners and detriment of Trade &
lawfull Business This Court upon Consideration of the premisses doth for prventing
such Mischiefs for the future Order that it be And it is hereby recommended and
referred unto his Majestys Justices of the peace for the said County of Middx
residing in Finsbury Division aforesaid or to any two or more of them by
Warrant or Order to be Granted under their Hands and Seals as often as they
Shall think needfull to Order and require that Mr. John Allen< no role > High Constable of
the said Division do Summon and take to his Assistance the several petty
Constables and Headboroughs within the said Division (whom this Court doth
require to aid and Assist him herein) or so many of them as he shall think
Sufficient for this purpose And that he the said High Constable together with
such petty Constables and Headboroughs whom he shall so take to his Assistance
do apprehend all and every players of Interludes, plays or Drolls and other persons
who shall Act Exhibite or shew any such Interludes, plays or Drolls or play at
or encourage or procure any unlawfull Game or Games to be played at in any
play house Booth Shed or other place in the said parish And that the said
petty Constables and Headboroughs do Carry all & every person or persons so
offending before one or more of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the
said County to the End they may be punished according to Law, And for the
more effectuall Suppressing the greivances aforesaid It is hereby recomended
unto his Majestys Justices of the peace for this County residing in Finsbury
Division aforesaid or any two or more of them to meet together at such place
or places in the said parish and at such time or times as they shall in this
behalf appoint in Order to proceed against such Offenders as shall be brought
before them by the said High Constable or other peace Officers according to
Law, And the said High Constable and other peace Officers are required to be
aiding and assisting to the said Justices of the peace and to observe their
Orders and directions for the more Effectual Suppressing and preventing the
abuses aforesaid.

By adjournment on Thursday the 30th. Day of June 1743.

Order for Mr. Higgs the
County Treasurer to pay
16s. unto Mr. John Wilson< no role >
late High Constable of
Holborn Division }

It being recomended to this Court by Robert Hucks< no role > Esqr . one of his Majestys Justices
of the peace of this County Signifyed by Writing under his Hand desiring that this
Court would order the Treasurer of this County to pay the Sum of Five Shillings to
Mr. John Wilson< no role > late High Constable of Holborn Division in the said County for
his Expence in and about executing a Warrant of distress for Levying some time
ago on the Overseers of the poor of the Rolls Liberty then Quota to the County
Rate And it also appearing that the said John Wilson< no role > hath disbursed & paid to
several petty constables within his Division upon Vagrant passes several
small sums of Money for passing and relieving of Vagrants and Vagabonds
amounting together to the Sum of Eleven Shillings, which said Sums of Five
Shillings and Eleven Shillings amount in the whole to the Sum of Sixteen
Shillings And the said John Wilson< no role > praying that he may be paid the same
It is ordered by this Court that Mr. John Higgs< no role > Treasurer of this County do
pay the said Sum of Sixteen Shillings unto the said John Wilson< no role > , And
that the said Treasurer be allowed the same upon his Account.
