in the House of Correction
at Clerkenwell to be
allowed one pennyworth
of bread every day, and for
Mr. Saml. Jaycock Baker to
provide the Same, And to
be paid for the bread by the
County Treasurer}

Whereas by an Order made at the last General Quarter
Session of the peace holden for the County of Middx by Adjornment
on Thursday the fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord
1741 It was (amongst other things) upon Several reasons
therein Setforth Ordered that the Keeper of the House of
Correction at Clerkenwell in the Said County Should on every
day from the eighteenth day of the Same Month of October
allow & pay unto every Prisoner committed or to be committed to
his Custody as Keeper of the Said House untill the time of
Such Prisoner's being discharged one penny each day for
Such Prisoner's relief & Subsistance during his or her
imprisonment, [..]
[..] And that the Said Keeper Should be
reimbursed the Same in Such manner as is therein
mentioned, And whereas it hath been Represented unto this
Court That in Order to prevent the Prisoners in the Said House
of Correction from Spending the Said one penny a day in
Geneva or other hot permicious liquors It will be much better
that in Stead of the Said one penny a day to the respective
Prisoners, one pennyworth of bread be allowed and distributed
every day to each Prisoner during his or her confinement in the
Said House of Correction which allowance at in bread may
conduce much more to their health & nourishment This
