the Person dyd a Natural Death but before the Coroner wou'd
grant a Warrant to burry he insisted on 1s for himself and
the Beadle had 6/8s or 7s for the Jury both which Sums the
said Cavenaugh declared he then paid of his own Money
That he buries them after the Searchers of the Parish have
viewed the Corps & acquainted the Officers of the Parish there wth
wthout any Inquisition taken He admitted it was not usu-
-al on the Death of any Person in Prison to acquaint the
Coroner wth it neither had he ever done it except in the In-
-stance above mentioned. At a subsequent Meeting of your
Committee he informed them of one other Person who had
dy'd in his Prison Matthew King< no role > one of Turpins Gang who
being shot in the Breast before he could be taken was
committed to New Prison & the Coroner having a Jury wth
him hard by the Prison enquiring into the Occasion of the
Death of another Person the Beadle apprizing the Coroner
yt the said King was then Just dead the Coroner & Jury
came to the Prison But thatneither the Coroner or Jury had
then any Fee or Reward as he remembers or believes.
Richd Williams< no role > Deputy to Henry Walbank< no role > Keeper of
Bridewell informed your Committee that it was usuall for
some Person in the Prison to make an Affidavit that the
Deceased was neither starved or murderd & then on Paymt.
of 5s the Coroner grants his Warrant to bury tho no Inqui-
-sition taken That some have been buried wthout any Affi-
-davit or Warrant. He says he has been Deputy or Servt
in the said Prison for upwards of 24 years & he believes
about three Inquisitions have been taken in his Remem-
-brance but then it was in Cases where it was plainly
evident to all the Prison that the Deceased had destroyed
themselves. He says in one of those Cases the Keeper paid
the Charges of the Inquisition wch he believes might be about
20s or more and he believes some Money was paid when both
the other Inquistions were taken being then so informed and
which he believes might be about 13s or 14s for each
