And this Court being also informed that the high Constable
of the Said Liberty of the Tower doth refuse to levy the Sums
of money above mentioned, It is Ordered by this Court
that it be And It is hereby recomended and referred unto
the Committee of his Majesty< no role > 's Justices of the peace for
this County (appointed to State & adjust the publick accounts
of the Said County) or any three of them to meet together
at Hicks Hall in St. John Street in this County on Thursday
the twenty Ninth day of October instant at ten of the clock
in the forenoon and at Such other times as they Shall
appoint, concerning the matter aforesaid, And to Sumon
before them the Said High Constable (if they Shall think
proper) And to consider what legal method may be
taken for enforceing the payment of the Said respective
Sums of money assessed upon the aforesaid places in the
Said Liberty, And to make their Report touching the Same
to the Court of the next General Session of the peace for
this County.

Report concerning Prisoners dy-
-ing in New Prison & the House
of Correction at Clerkenwell &
cont the Corroners not taking
Inquisitions of their Death,
& touching the making an
allowance to Prisoners in the
sd. House of Corr:

Your Committee appointed to enquire into the several Matters
referr'd to them last Sessions have had Several Meetings at the
first of wch: Meetings your Committee were informed That Per-
-sons dying either in Bridewell or New Prison were frequently
buried wthout any Inquisition being taken This your Committee
apprehending to be a Matter of some Consequence that such Pro
-ceedings were unjustifiable & that the Coroner ought to attend
without Fee or Reward on such Occasions. Your Committee tho't
it incumbent on them to examine some Witnesses relating to this
Affair. Mr Cavenaugh Keeper of New Prison being first exami-
-ned acquainted your Committee he had been Keeper of the sd.
Prison for seven Years & within that Time eight have dy'd in
Prison seven of which were buried without any Inquisition taken
by the Coroner That he always has Searchers on these Occasions
whom he pays The eighth Person who dy'd in his Prison the Seachers
certifying their Opinion to be that he was Starved to Death he u-
pon that as he acquainted your Committee sent for the Coroner
yr an Inquisition was taken & the Jury on full Evidence found
