Order for appointing Mrs.
Jane Cavenagh< no role > to be
Matron of the House of
Correction at Clerkenwell
in the place of & Stead of
Mary Best< no role > deced}

Whereas the Office place or employment of Matron of the House
of Correction at Clerkenwell in this County is now vacant
by the death of Mary Best< no role > the late Matron of the Same, Non
upon the humble Petition of Thomas Cavenagh< no role > Keeper
of New Prison at Clerkenwell in the Said County & Jane Cavenagh< no role >
his wife preferred to this Court Setting forth that She the Said
Jane Cavengh is fitly qualifyed to perform & execute the
place of Matron, and praying that this Court will be pleased
to appoint her the Said Jane to be Matron of the Said House
of Correction This Court doth nominate & appoint the
Aforesaid Jane Cavenagh< no role > to be Matron of the Said House
of Correction at Clerkenwell in the place & Stead of the
Said Mary Best< no role > To have hold execute and enjoy the Said
Office place or employment of Matron And also to have
and to hold the Rooms and Apartment with the
Appurtenances in the Said House and all priviledges
and advantages belonging to or heretofore enjoyed by
the Matron of the Said House Together with the Salary of
ten pounds a year, which is hereby Ordered to be allowed
to the Said Jane Cavenagh< no role > as Matron of the Said House
for her trouble & pains in & about the performance of her
busyness as Matron of the Said House and payable by the
Said Thomas Cavenagh< no role > as Keeper of New Prison at
Clerkenwell and by the Keepers there of for the time being
during So long time only as the Justices of the peace of this
County or the major part of them Shall think fit, which yearly
Salary is to be paid to her during her continuance in the Said
Office or employment as Matron by the Said Thomas Cavenagh< no role >
as Keeper of New Prison aforesaid and by the Keepers
thereof for the time being by quarter by payments (to
wit) at Christmas, Lady day, Midsummer, and
Michaelmas, the first quarterly payment to be paid
to her on Christmas day now next ensuing, which yearly
Salary the present Keeper of New Prison is by the tenor of
his Admission as Keeper obliged to pay as hath been
heretofore done by the former Keepers of New Prison
aforesaid.
