and unable tobe bro't up to Court when sent for (three the last
Sessions being so weak that they cou'd not be bro't up to be dischar-
-ged) & that he verily believed their Illness was often occasioned
by their great Necessities & Want of Provision Your Committee
was also informed yt the sd. Keepr having some Beans boyled.
& the Water standing afterwards in the Kettle there was Quar-
-rell among ye Prisoners which shou'd first dip their Bread in
the Bean Water & that they eat the Bread so dipt very greedily
& that they often eat Pea shells & were glad to gett them some
Gentlemen also of your Committee who have several Times pre
-sided in the Court of a Saturday Morning when the Prisoners are
bro't up and called over acquainted the other Gentlemen of
your Committee yt ye Prisoners so bro't up are most of them
great Objects of Compassion yt they appeal halfstarved that
they have often complained to them of their great want of neces-
-sary Food that they have been so weak often wn. bro't up that it
has been a Difficulty to bring them up & carry them back a
gain & this as the said Gentlemen informed your Committee
occasioned often as they very believe & according to the best
Judgement they cou'd then make from want of food & Com
-mon Necessaries & that the said Gentleman had been so
moved with Compassion that they had sometimes & on particu-
-lar Occasions raised Money themselves & paid them Money
out of their own Pockets for their necessary Relief & present
Subsistance. Your Committee on this Representation of the
Case & wch. they apprehend & believe to be a true one sent for
the Keepr & his Deputy in order to be informed wt Numbr of
Prisoners one Day wth another thro the whole Year might
be in their Custody and on the nearest Computation your
Committee cou'd make from their [..] Account there
might be thro the Year one Day wth another sometimes more
sometimes less about fifty a Day this at an Allowance of 1d P Day
to each Prisoners wou'd amount to abt £76 P Ann which is very
near wt was the former Allowance in Money & which your
Committee think might be a reasonable Allowance & which
method
