By Adjornmt. on Thursday the 18th. day of October 1739
Order concerning the
rebuilding of Brentford
Bridge
and receiving
proposalls for the same
Etc}
This Court having taken into consideration the State and
condition of a Publick Bridge called Brentford Bridge
in this County
which hath been usually repaired at the charge of this County
And which Bridge the Grand Jury hath at this present sessions
presented to be very much out of repair, and that it is necessary
that the said Bridge should be forthwith repaired or rebuilt
Doth Resolve that the aforesaid Bridge be rebuilt with stone
and with two arches, So as there be sufficient room under such
Arches to carry off the water comeing down the River Brent,
over which the new Bridge is to be rebuilt in Stead of the present
Bridge
, And this Court is of opinion that one Engineer or other
skillfull persons be employed to consider of the method of
rebuilding the Said Bridge So as it may answer the purpose
aforesaid, and of the charge thereof, And doth Order that it be
recomended & referred to the Committee of his Maties Justices of
the peace for this County appointed at the last Sessions in relation to
the publick Bridges (to wit) Sr.

Justices of the
peace for this County or any three of them to employ Such
Engineer or Skilfull persons as they Shall think proper to lay
before the Said Committee such method plans & proposalls as
may be most proper for rebuilding the said Bridge with stone
So as it may answer the purpose aforesaid, and an account or
Estimate of the charge thereof, And the Said Committee are desired
to meet for that purpose at such times & place as they Shall
appoint, and also to consider of such method plans & proposalls,
And to report the Same to the Court of the next General Session of
the peace for the Said County
