before Said.

There is also wanting 279 Feet of Oak railing on the
road Leading to ye west end of the Bridge , the posts
thereof 6 Inches by 5 Inches & well Supported by Spurrs
and the Rails 5 Inches & by 4 inches,

The above is a true account of the present State of
the Said bridge So far as it appears to me, and to the best
of my Judgment the method I have proposed will
effectually answer the End by enduring in good
Condition for the term above mentioned, and interrupting
the Passage a much less while then ye other way of
Driving new Piles, to do which ye Bridge must be all
Uncovered while the Old Piles are Drawn out and New
ones drove, whereas by this way all the works under ye
Bridge relating to ye Supporting thereof may be done &
yet the Passage Over preserved all the while,

And this Repair may be done in a workmanlike
manner & with ye best Materials of each find for
three hundred & thirty Pound,

As to rebuilding the Said bridge I would propose to
Do it without Driving any Piles at all, only by Cutting
all the present Piles of to a Levell below the ground,
where we are almost Sure to find them as good as they
were before they were driven, and as the whole Support
of the bridge Consists of the 2 Abutments and 5 Rows of
Piles & each row of 5 Piles, & 1 Pile for the foot Bridge;
which is 6 piles in each row, what I would Offer is a
Strong frame of Timber, consisting of a Ground Sill a
Cappiece, & 6 Posts Standing upright & framed on ye
Ground Sill< no role > , & under ye Cappience & well Braced, instead of
each Row of Piles, that is to Say 5 of the Said Frames
instead of ye 5 Rows of Piles, which when they are
fastned Down to the remains of the old Piles will answer
every end of new Piles drove into the Ground, with
further Advantages, that there will be a Considerable
Saving in Expence, as well as in ye time, that ye Passage
over will not be interrupted, for all this part of the work
may be done without any Interruption of the passage
over, which need be no Longer then while ye Joysts &
