Railing above must be preserved for the Security of the Houses
Adjoyning as well as of the Foot Bridge.

Between the two abutments the Bridge is Supported by
5 Rows of 5 Piles in each Row, one Row of which appears to be
new, another Row will last the above term, & in the other
3 Rows there must be 8 new Supports instead of 8 Piles
that are Bad, what I mean is that those 8 Bad Piles Should
be Sawn of below the Ground, where if ever they were
good 'tis more then probable they are So Still, and there
the new may be very Sufficiently Spliced to ye Old, & then
by bracing Each row of Piles with 2 long Firr Braces
on Each Side, one is the form of St. Andrews Cross, the
Foundation or Support of the Bridge will be as Sufficient for ye
term as Ever it was,

Of the 5 Cap pieces or Timbers that Lye on ye Heads of each
Row of Piles, 4 are Very bad, but with the Adition of 2 New
ones and 2 more made out of ye 4 Bad ones they will do
Very well,

Between ye 2 Abutments, there are 6 Spaces caused
by the 5 Intermediate Rows of Piles, which are cover'd over
by Joysts that are Very crooked and irregular, & if any
of them Should prove tollerably, Sound, they are by much
the least Capable of being Converted to any other use,
however I Shall hope to pick out Enough to cover the
2 Easter most Spaces being the least, And to Repair the
Planking of the Foot Bridge,

Those two Spaces being about 19 feet when deducted
from the 77 Feet, there will remain 58 feet of the Bridge
in Length to be covered with new Oak Joyst, 10 in Number
to be cut out Streight and Square to ye. Scantling of 11 Inches
by 9 Inches, and all the Said Joyst both New and Old to be
Covered for the whole Length of the Bridge or 77 Feet at
a Mean, and about the Breadth of 21 Feet with 3 Inch
Oak Plank,

There is above 90 Feet of the Posts & Rails upon the
bridge that has not been Done Long, & will therefore do
again, but 97 Feet of it is very Bad & must be new with
Spurrs without & within, & a Strong ground plank at
Bottom to agree with the new Raile,

The Rail of the foot Bridge will do again & So may
most of the Joyst, but the planking being bad 'tis hoped
it may be repair'd out of Some of the old Materials, as
