Session concerning a Matter relating to the House of
Conection at Clerkenwell
in the said County. It appeareth
to this Court that upon the Information of Mr. Peter
Creswell Keeper of the said House of Correction
, the
said Committee do find that Mary Best< no role >
hath for
many Years lived in the said House at the Entrance
of the said prison and acted in the Nature of a
Turnkey
, whom the said Committee do not think a
proper person, and for want of such a One the said
Committee are of Opinion Escapes may happen and
the said Committee do therefore propose that for
the safe Custody of prisoners there shall be for the
future an able & Strong Man Employed by the said
Mr. Creswell< no role >
to dwell in the said House where the
said Mary Best< no role >
now liveth, This Court upon
Consideration of the said Matter Doth think fit and
So Order that the Keeper of the said House of Correc-
-tion Do hereafter Constantly Employ a Strong able
Bodyed Man as his Servant to be Turnkey of the
said prison, and to dwell in the said House for
the more Safe Custody of prisoners Committed or
to be Committed to the House of Correction
aforesaid
