The Examination of Thomas
Welch taken upon Oath the
2nd. Day of March 1784

Saith that he never saw Patterson before he this Exami-
-nant went into the goal after the said Patterson's Imprison-
-ment. That between Two and three years ago he first became
acquainted with the Prisoner Hannah Mullens< no role > and her
Husband Edward Mullens< no role > . That he this Examinant saw
the said Edward Mullens< no role > last about Two Months ago, and
has seen the said Hannah Mullers< no role > since in Saint Giles
That he this Examinant was sent for on last Wednesday
by a Stranger who told him that a Person in Drury Lane
named Edwin wished to see him this Examinant and that
the said Edwin was gone but would call again in the Morn-
-ing. That he this Examinant went in the Morning to Nag [..]
Head Court, and that Examinant saw the said Edwin shaw
in a House on the left Hand side of the said Court near the
End thereof, and that Examinant asked the said Edwin if
he wanted him this Examinant The said Edwin answered
that Hannah Mullens< no role > was in Trouble with a young Man
whose Name was not then mentioned. That the said
Edwin asked this Examinant if he remembred drinking
in the Cock publick House in Dyer Street at a Time whose
a Person called him out about a Letter, That he this Exami-
-nant replied he did not then recollect such an Occurence
That the said Edwin asked Examinant if he recollected
the Man that brought the Letterthere to the said Hannah
Mullens upon which Examinant recollected such a
Circumstances to have happened about ten Months ago
but that he this Examinant did not see the said Letter pass
