Whereas the above bounden Thomas Townsend< no role >
was this Day convicted before me William Plomer< no role >
Knight Drayor of the said City and one of his
Majesty's Justices of the Peace in and for the said City and Liberties thereof For that he on the Twenty ninth Day of April last at the Cross
Keys Inn in Grace Church Street
in the said City not regarding the Statutes of our Lord the King did keep a Coach or Carriage Commonly called a
Diligence for the purpose of Conveying Passengers for hire to and from different places within the Kingdom of Great Britain namely from the Cross
Keys Inn in Grace Church Street
aforesaid to Bromley
in the County of Kent
and did let out the same for the Purpose without having first obtained
a Licence under the Hands of two of his Majestys Commissioners for managing the Duties on Stamped Vellium Parchment and Paper or some Person duly
authorized by them agreeable to the Directions of a Certain Act of Parliament made and passed in the Twentieth Year of his present Majesty's Reign
"intituled An Act for repealing an Act made in the nineteenth year of the Reign of his present Majesty intituled an Act for granting to his Majesty< no role >
certain
"Duties on Licences to be taken out by all Persons letting Horses to Hire for travelling in the manner therein mentioned and certain Duties on all Horses
"Let to hire for the Proposes of Travelling past and by time and upon certain Carriages therein mentioned and for granting other Duties in lieu
" thereof" against the form of the Statute in such Case made and provided By reason whereof the said Thomas Townsend< no role >
did forfeith the Sum of Six Pounds
to be distributed as in and by the said Act is directed The Condition of this Recognizance is such That if the above bound to Thomas Townsend< no role >
do and shall appear at the next General Quarter Sessions of the Peace of our Lord the King to be holden at the Guildhall
in and for the said City of London
and prosecute his Appeal with effect to the sand Conviction and abide and Perform such Award as shall be then and there made in the premises
Then this Recognizance to be said otherwise of force
