Joseph Hodges< no role >
taken before
me this 20th. day of January 1772
Who being upon Oath says that he became acquainted with Mr. Vestenberg about
February 1768 about which time he bought some South Sea Stock for him which he
thinks about five thousand pounds, says that he also mentioned at Garroway's
Coffee house
that if any Letters came there directed to Capt. Shirley they should be
sent to his house at Islington
, that the Letter now produced was brought there
accordingly, says that when he saw Vestenburg last Thursday at the St. Alban's
Tavern in Company with Mr. Van Heffen and another Person he was very uneasy

And this Informant on the 28th. day of January 1772 on his Outter further
says that he knows not the Reason why the said Letter was to be directed to
him in the Name of Capt
Jas. Shirley< no role >
says that he does believe the
Direction of the said Letter is of the Hand Writing of the said Mr.
Vestenburg and that another Letter now produced by Mr. Wm. Rufool< no role >
appears
to him to be of the same Hand Writing and of the Hand writing of that
said Mr. Vestenburg and this Informant further says that the said
Vestenburg told him his going abroad was in order to assist one Thomas
Wood she was then in Custody and charged with a Forgery and that
he did not give this Informant any other Reason for his going [..]
