Sent for her in order to return Some of her Davis Goods & Money Nicholls cryed out Why Woman
an you come to robb me But presently Softened again and desired to Speak with her in a little
Inner Room

When they came there Nicholls Said to Tannatt there is but One Thing will Save my Self If you
will Stand by me and Say Wt. I desire you, I Shall gett out.

Tannott told her She would Say any Thing for her Service, but wt. wd. you have me say Why Says she it
is only to Say yt. you came to Town the 5th. of Nov and yt on ye Fryday We took Coach after Breakfast &
Went to See the Tower and afterwards to Billingate and had Some Beef Stakes and Oysters & yt them
We went to One Mrs. Smiths in the Haymarkett & there Spent ye Afternoon and from thence returned
home to Supper & yt you lay at my house yt Night Upon this Tannatt asked her where She was to Say
All this, Why Says She only before a fees Justices at Hicks Hall but Thope says Tannatt you
dont desire I Should Swear All this Why says Nicholls wt. is an Oath to Save a Person's Life the
Moment I am acquitted Will take Coach, I'll call upon a Person who has my Money and give You
£300 and do for All your Family Nicholls then asked her wt. Woman yt was she had brot. with
her Tannatt answered it was a Neighbour, Is She honest Says Nicholls may one Trust her Yes
Says Tannatt She is a very honest Woman and an Old Acquaintance of mine, Where does She Can
Says Nicholls Tannatt answered yt She lived in 5 feet Lane in Thomas Street Why then Says
Nicholls call her in & She can say yt. We called upon her and took her up in the Afternoon as We went to Mrs.
Smith's

Tannatt who was frightned at Nicholls's Proposal was glad to have some body with her and
thereupon presently called Merchant into ye Closett To whom Nicholls repeated the Scheme Merchant
made ye Same Objeccon as to Swearing But Nicholls promised them both Mountains and said Wt Signified
An Oath to save a friend's Life

The Two Women knowing Nicholls's violent and vindictive Temper were afraid Absolutely to [..]
complying with her Proposal but excused themselves on Accot. of ye Badness of ye Memory To Edbirk
Nicholls replied yt. She would yett Protty Humble (an Unfortunate Dependant of hers) to Write
down wt. they had to Say and bring it them

As Soon as they gott home To Tannatt's house they told Mrs. Knible wt had passed and One
Jonathan Keate< no role > coming in Soon after Mrs. Tannatt likewise told him, & Say'd She was determined
to lay the Whole Affair before ye Court of Aldermen But Keate told her Ye City Sollr. was the Proper Far
to apply to and yt he would carry her and Mrs. Merchant to ye Sollr. house

Accordingly next Morning they came and having told ye Sollr. their Story he told them yt it would be
proper to keep this Discovery Secret and to gett the Paper of Instruccons Which Nicholls had promised
to Send

Tannatt & Merchant called upon Nicholls for the written Instruccons but Nicholls told the yt Bally
Humbly (Who was her Secretary & Solicitrix) had been so busy writing ye Instruccons for ye other
Witnesses yt. She had not yet wrote out theirs but yt. She should bring it them in ye Evening

Accordingly Betty Humbly took down in Writing from Nicholls's Mouth wt. She had Said Tannatt
& Merchant were to swear and then went and carried ye & Lessons (of which Mrs. Tannatts is Sett out
in the Indictmt.) to Tannatt and desired her to give Mrs Mercht hers.

But Nicholls having by Some Means or other discovered yt Tannatt & Merchant had deserted her
She Imediately Sent for her Briefs back again from her Councill & made out a New Alibe Case
Which however being likewise blown up before ye day of her Tryall She did not think fitt to make
Use of

After a pretty long Trial Where Mr. Justice Morrice his Clerk and Servt Swore Positively to her
She was convicted without offering any Proofs in her Defence
