Indictment Setts forth That Deft & Edward Bygrave< no role > late of the Parish of Kensington in the Sd. County of Middx
Labourer not having the fear of God before their Eyes but being moved by the Instigation of the Devil & falsely unjustly & unlawfully
conspiring together & intending greatly to injure & appress One William Frankland< no role > of London Brewer in his good name and
reputation & to cause him to be imprisoned for felony on 9th. Novr. 1739 at Kensington in the sd. County with force & Arms etc
falsely wickedly & decilishly did combine conspire & agree together against all truth & justice to procure the sd: Wm. Frankland< no role >
(he then being a Prisoner in Newgate ) to be charged upon oath before One of his Majesty's Justices assigned etc for Middx
with a felony comitted by him in the County of Oxford, And to cause the sd. Wm. Frankland< no role > to be detained in Newgate for the Same
And that for these purposes He the sd: Edward By grave should personale One John Sparse< no role > of the Parish of Aynee on the
Hill in the County of Neithton Salesman , And Deft & sd: Bygrave to compleat their sd. Wicked Combination Intentions and
Conspiray on sd: 9th. Nov: at Kensington aforesd: in sd: County of Middx did go before William Morise< no role > Esq then being one,
of his Majesty's Justices assigned etc for Middx And sd: Bygrave then & there in the presence & with the Knowledge & trinity
of sd: Deft & in pursuance of the sd: Combination & Conspiracy (Sd. Bygrave then & there personating sd: John Sparse)
before the sd: Wth. Morise (sd. Wm. Moxie then & long before being one of his Majesty's assigned etc for Middx & having
Sufficient Authority to administer an Oath to sd: Bygrave in that behalf) did then in sd: Parish of Kensington Voluntarily
falsely & maliciously upon his Corporal oath depose Swear & in writing affirm "That a Person then in Custody in his
Majesty's Goal of Newgate in the County of Middx & Who went by the name of Wm: Franklyn< no role > & by the Nick Name of Rusty Dick< no role >
meaning sd. Frankland them in Custody in Sd. Goal) did on or about the 20th: Day of Cutt. which was in the year of our Lord,
1736 Attack him (meaning sd. Bygrave who then personated sd: John Spurse) on the Highway as he (meaning himself then
Personating sd: Spurse) was travelling between Islip & Weatley in Oxfordshire, that he (meaning sd: Frankland) robbed him,
(meaning himself sd: Bygrave then (Personating sd: Spurse) & forsibly took from him (meaning himself sd: Bygrave then
Personating sd: Spurse) One Guinea, Fifteen Shillings, a Silver Watch & Hatt And that the sd: Robbery was comitted in the Day time
between the hours of four & two o' Clerk in the Afternoon on or about the sd: 20th: Octr. in the Year 1736 And that he (meaning
himself sd: Bygrave then Personating sd: Spurse) was very Possitive that the Person who robbed him (meaning himself said
By grave then Personating sd: Spurse) was the sd: Wm. Franklyn< no role > abovenamed" (meaning sd: Frankland) as by sd: Examination
may more of large appear

Whereas in Truth & fast sd: Frankland or sd: Franklyn who is mentioned to have been called by the Nick Names
of Rustry Dick< no role > did not at any time attack rob or forcibly take away from any Person whatsoever on the highway in sd. County
of Oxford . any money or goods whatsoever Which sd. Combination & Conspiracy of sd: Deft & By grave were to the great
Peril of the life & distruction of sd: Frankland to the manifest Perversion of the Laws Etc to To the Evil Example Etc and
agt. the Peace etc

To which Indictmt. the Deft has pleaded Not Guilty, & She is to try her Traverse thereon this Sessions

The Defts husband Mr. Nicholls about 2 years ago was Underkeeper of Newgate who being pretty much
Governed by the Deft allowed her to Dimineer in ye Goal as she pleased.

This power she made so bad a use of that a Complaint was made of her Extersons & Cruelier to the Court of
Oldren

William Frankland< no role > then a prisoner for debt in Newgate) being the Chief Premeter of this Complaint
the Deft determined to be revenged or him for what he had done & to prevent his being in the way of doing her any faller
mischief.
