Phillip Lay< no role > says he is a Farrier lives in the Back Lane St. George
Middlesex adjoining to the Sun Tavern Fields Shadwell and that between
the hours of Six and Seven last Night as he was at Mr. Bishop a public
nearThat Joseph Williams< no role > asked him if he wanted to buy Two Barr of
IronSays he went to Williams Stables in lower Shadwell where was
the said Joseph William< no role > who said the Iron was not there it was in the
Street when Cuthbert Rutledge< no role > and John Freeman< no role > brought Two Barr
of Iron from Atharf late Shepherd near Cole Stain Shadwell in the presence
of the said Joseph Williams< no role > and put them up at the side of a house when
Joseph Williams< no role > bed him take the said Barrs away that he and John
Freeman
< no role > carried the said Two Barrs of Iron up to his house Williams
and Rutledge accompanying theirthat he cut said Barrs a sunder
weighing by Steel Yard (with the help of Rutledge) above fifty pound weight
and that he paid the sum of Seven Shillings to the said Rutledge for the same
John Freeman< no role > being present at the paying for the said Two Barrs And that
The Four pieces of Iron produced are parts of the said Two Bars of Iron
which he received and paid for last night as aforesaid

Joseph Williams< no role > says last Night between the hours of Six and Seven
as he was at Mr. Bishops drinking a pint of beer Cuthbert Rutledge < no role > came
in and asked him if he would buy a Couple of Barrs of Iron which lay upon
the Ice and if he would give him the Key of the Stables to put them in That
he answered he did not want any such thingThat he told Rutledge there was a Blacksmith
by him who might want it to Shoe his horsesSays Phillip Lay< no role > and Rutledge
went out and spoke togetherLay returned Rutledge did not That when
he had drinks to his Beer he told Lay he was going to the Stable and went Says
soon after Lay came and asked him if he had seen Rutledge That he told
him not that he might find him about Cole Stairs where he plyedSays Lay left
him and soon after on going from his Stable homehe saw Lay come out
the Yard late Shepherd with a Bar of Iron which he pitched up again a house
saying to John Freeman< no role > bring the other Barr I think I could carry them both
that Lay carried both barr a Little way being tired he gave me to Freeman
to carrythat he went cross the Field to the house of Bishop where Rutledge
soon came saying he had seen the weight of The two Barr of Iron; And that himself Saw the
said Phillip Lay pay Cuthbert Rutledge< no role > in the presence of John Freeman< no role >
who sat close by him the sum of Six Shillings for the Two Barrs of Iron
which was instantly divided and said Rutledge gave said Freeman Three
Shillings as his Share viz a half Crown piece and a Six penny and says that
he had not any Interest whatever in the Concern [mark]
