The Information and Complaint
of John Wilkinson< no role > and Hannah Tokeley< no role > taken
on Oath before me Edward Parker< no role > Esquire one of his
Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the said County the first day
of March in the Year of our Lord 1788

And First the said John Wilkinson< no role > for himself
Saith that the Person now brought before me John Taylor< no role > a
Constable who calls herself Elizabeth Cottrell< no role > came into this
Deponents Shop Between the hours of 2 & 3 o'Clock in the
Afternoon of the said Day in Company with another Woman Whose Name is
unknown and who has made her Escape the Woman asked
to see a Piece of Lawn which was Shewn to them by
Hannah Tokeley< no role > who Sold the Prisioner 1/8 of a yard for which
they agreed to pay Six pence and not having half pence enough
left the Shop Saying they would go and get Exchange for
a Guinea and Hannah Tokeley< no role > on her Oath Saith that
Immedly. on the sd. Elizh. Cottrell and her Companion going out
of the Shop she this Dept. went to her Mastr. & told him that
the Prisoner Elizabeth Cottrell< no role > was seen by her during the time she
was Purchasing the Piece of Lawn before mentioned privately to
draw towards the outward edge of the Counter a whole piece of
lawn & to support the same with her stays for a time & then to
let the same slide down on the floor and further that she
afterwards saw the said Piece of Lawer lay on the floor and soon
afterwards under the Prisoner right arm And this Dept. further
told her Master that she the Prisoner had taken it out of
the Shop and this Dept. John Wilkinson< no role > further Saith
Receiving this Account from his Servant he followed
