27 March 1788

William Abbott< no role > son of James Abbott< no role > of Pennington Street St. George Middlesex
Painter saith last night between the Hour of Seven and Eight he saw the Prisoner present
who say his name is Luke Jones< no role > getting in at the lower Window of John Arundell< no role > in the
said Street Carpenter, Says himself was coming out of his said Father house which is Opposite
to the House of Mr. Arundell That the saith of the Window was up and as soon as the said Luke
Jones
< no role > was in the Room a Man shut too the outer Window Shutters and went for a Light says
the said men soon returned with a Lighted Candle to the Corner and in Going up the Lane met
Mr. Arundell who he told a Man had got into his houseWilliam Abbott< no role >

John Arundell< no role > on his oath saith last night between the hours seven and Eight as he was
returning home with his Wife and Sister he met William Abbott< no role > near to his dwelling house
who told him a man had got into his house says he left his Wife run home that when
he came to the Door he saw a Light in his Chamber moving to and for Says he went to
Mr. Carter a head borough who he told there were rogues in the house got Assistance
opened his fore door with a Key run up Stairs with Thomas Arlington< no role > got a Light and
found the said Luke Jones< no role > had in the Garret Chimney who they apprehended and on Examining
his Chamber where he saw the Light found the Drawers broke Open and a Quantity
of Wearing Apparell taken there from and laid on a hat Box in a Chair in the said
Room Vizt. One Margt. Cloth Coat two pair of Breeches One Nanheen and One Cloth and one
Cloth Waistcoat Says he was at home about a Quarter part Six Yesterday Evening
and fastened the Doors and Window of his house and went out leaving no person
therein Says he has Examined the lower Window of his said house and found the Bolt
of the Window Shutter has been forced open and a pair of Glass broke for the Window which he left safe as aforesaid
