John Merchanton< no role > of Welbeck Street in the Parish of Saint
Mary Le Bone in the County of Middlesex Baker
maketh Oath and Saith that he was bound by Recognizance entered into
before Mr. Justice Bradshaw in the Month of July last to
appear at the Sessions to be held at the Old Bailey in the Month
of August following to give Evidence against James Martin< no role > and
John Paterson< no role > for Stealing a Coat and Pocket Book from William
Sutherland
< no role > in the Parish of Saint Mary le Bone That at the time
of entering into such Recognizance he was a Minor of the Age of eighteen
Years only, incapable of Judging for himself, and did not know the consequence
of not Complying with the Condition of such Recognizance, being just come
from Derbyshire and entirely ignorant of such Business, did rely
on the Prosecutors Promise of calling on him when wanted
That this Deponent did not know when or where to Attend, but trusted
entirely to the care of the Prosecutor And this Deponent further
declared he did not stay away, with any intent or desire of serving. the
Prisoners, or to prevent the due course of Justice but entirely from
Ignorance as before stated And that he is only a Journeyman Baker
at low Wages and very Poor.
