The Examination of Edward Mills< no role > Servant to Reuben Richardson< no role >
of Bulstrode Mews , Mary bone Lane in the County of Middlesex
and Driver of Hackney Coach No. 815 charged with felony
by John Whalley< no role > Esqr . and taken before me Nicholas Bond< no role >
Esquire one of his Majestys Justices of the peace for the said
City and Liberty this 14th. day of September 1786

Who saith that on Thursday Night last between the hours of twelve
and one o'Clock as he was on the stand at the bottom of Saint James's
Street , he was called to the St. James's Coffee house to take up John
Whalley
< no role > Esqr : now present who got into his Coach and ordered him to
drive to No. 31 in Conduit Street That at the further end of
Albermarle Street , by the dead Wall, a Man came up to his
Horses head on the near side and said "Stop Coachman" Examinant
replied "Stop for what" when said Man came up by his fore wheel
presented a Pistol and Said "Damn your Blood, you shall Stop"
That said Man then went up to the Coach Door opened it and
demanded Mr. Whalleys MoneyThat he saw a Mana arm with a
Pistol in it on his right side, but could not discern whether there
was a Man or Men, but heard the Coach Glass breakThat he and
Mr. Whalleys Watch demanded and heard him reply, that he had not
got anyThat upon a Watchmans coming up from Grafton Street
the Robbers ran offThat after this, this Examinant drew up his
Coach on the near side by the foot Pavement when Mr. Whalley cried
out, that he had been robbedThat the Watchman rang his Rattle and
this Examinant drove onThat he doth he understood
by his crying out, that he ordered him to go onThat he then
drove said Mr. Whalley to No. 31 in Conduct Street That he never
saw a person now present who calls himself Joseph Wright< no role > till
this morning (to the best of his Knowledge and belief) That he
never had any Conversation with him or spoke to him to his
