Wharfinger Taken this Fourth day of October 1786 before me One of his
Majestys Justices of the peace in and for the said County

Who being upon their Oaths severally say and first the said Elizabeth Banfield< no role > for
herself saith that about a Quarter of an hour before seven O' Clock this Evening the saw a person
now present who calls himself Stephen Newman< no role > take a Tea Tray now Produced out of the
Window of her said Father house and which Tray is the property of her said Father that she
Immediately threw up the Sash Jumped out of the Window into the Street called out Stop
Thief and pursued him to the Corner of Pump Yard where he was Stopped by the Informant
Richard Blurdell< no role > who for himself saith that hearing the Cry of Stop Thief Made by the Informant
Elizabeth Banfield< no role > and perceiving the prisoner running down London Street aforesaid
he Stopt her at the Corner of Pump Yard when the Informant Banfield came Sup and
told him the prisoners was the person who hade stole a Tea Tray from her Fathers house
and desired him to keep the prisoner an Custody until she could get an Officer, that he
accordingly look him into the house of Mr. Cullum where he was secured until he was
delivered into the Custody of John Orange< no role > the Officer and the said William Mather< no role > for
himself says that about seven O Clock this Evening coming ant of his house in London Street
Aforesaid in order to see if his Cellar Window was fast he found the Tea Tray now produced
Standing upon its Edge Close to the wall of his house where this Ellison a person who
liver Opposite to Informant called to him and sayed that was the Tea Tray
belonging to Mrs Banfield soon after which Miss Banfield came and to told Informant
that Tray belonged 16herand her went with Informant to the house of Mr Cullum
where the prisoner then was in Custody

Stephen Newman< no role > upon his Examination Saith that he knows nothing of the
above Robbery but coming down London Street he heard Informant Banfield
Cry out Stop Thief when her run across the Street and Crud out Stop Thief
and followed the Man to the Corner of the Street when he was Stopped by
George John Trinder< no role > an Evidence Bound to prosecuteThat he is by Trade a
Gummithcame from Plymouth on Friday last went this day to
Blackwell and Intended to go from thence to Blackman Street or to the
Borough had he not been prevented there from by his bring in Trouble
