taken before Us Two of his Majestys
Justices of the Peace for the said County City &
Liberty

Who being severally upon Oath say And first this
Informent. William Dodd< no role > for himself saith that about
four oClock this afternoon he was in the Tap Room of
the public House the Sign of the Wheat Sheaf the Corner
of Poland Street Oxford Street when the person now present
who calls himself John Ireland< no role > came in having the Broad
Sword now produced in his hand in the Scabbard that he
stayed about four or five Minutes in the Tap Room &
Conversed with several People there when this Informant
did not observe there was any Inconsistancys or
Irregularity in such his Conversation that from the said
Tap Room he went into the Parlour when this Informant
saw no more of his till after the Accident had happened

And this Informant Richard Mumly< no role > for himself
saith that he was in the Parlour of the above House
at the time abovementioned with other Company when
the said John Ireland< no role > came in with the Broad Sword
in his hand and sat himself down very calmly and
quietly that several persons took Notice of the Broad
Sword as a Curiosity when it was handed about to several
of the Company who after having Examined it returned it
again to the said John Ireland< no role > , that some One in the
Company but not the Person who was Wounded mentioned
that the said John Ireland< no role > had a very pretty Daughter
when John Obrien< no role > say'd to the said John Ireland< no role > that
he should soon become One of his Family Upon which
the said John Ireland< no role > arose from his Seat & very
deliberately drew the Broad Sword from out of the
Scabbard and so deliberately was it done that this
Informant with other persons present thought it was
