over to Prosecute and prefer the Indictments) And this Deponent humbly [..]
Apprehends that his Evidence was not material against either of the Defendants
as he presumes will appear from his Information taken before the Magistrates
at Bow Street which was to the following purport (Vizt) "That the Assignments
"and Deeds then produced were prepared by the direction and at the Request of
"Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > and James Griffiths< no role > -That on Tuesday the sixth
"of June he saw Darby at the House of Griffiths who asked him if his
"Annuity was ready to which Deponent Answered in the Negative at which
"Darby expressed himself surprised saying it was a better security than Campbells
"And that Mr. Teasdale had disappointed him for that he promised it
"should be ready on the Saturday preceding"

And this Deponent James Griffiths< no role > for himself further Saith
That he kept himself ready and was in expectation of hearing from the said
Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > (as promised) when his attendance would be necessary
on the said Prosecution but this Deponent neither saw nor heard from said
Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > till the middle of the Session Weck when the said
Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > told this Deponent that neither he this Deponent nor
Deponent Mitton would be wanted before the Grand Jury as neither of
their Evidence was material there, and that he would let Deponents know
when they need attend And that relying on the said Marmaduke Teasdales
Promise this Deponent frequently attended at the old Bailey imagining he
would not be wanted before the Grand Jury And Deponent further saith that
on Saturday Morning the twenty second of July last Deponent received a
Message from the said Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > by a Person who he believes
was his Clerk to attend at the Old Bailey as the Tryal was expected to come
on And this Deponent accordingly went to the Old Bailey and made inquiry of
Mr. Shelton relative thereto and was informed the Bills were not then returned
there Whereupon this Deponent came Home and found a Message had been
left at his House from the said Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > that the Bills were thrown
out-

And both these Deponents severally say they were always ready and willing and
fully meant and intended to give their Evidence but their not attending before the
Grand Jury was soley swing to and occasioned by the Default of and being
misled by the said Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > as before mentioned and not out of any
favor or affection to the Defendants or either of them or any other Person pr persons whatever or
from hopes of my reward Lucre pr Gain or promise or expectation thereof or with a view to prevent
the finding of the Bills or the Conviction of the Defendants or from any other corrupt or sinister Metive
whatever but merely from the cause before stated And that from the Conduct of the said Marmadute
Teasdale
< no role > these Deponents are inclined to believe he meant to prevent their giving Evidence before the
grand Jury and the more so as only the Name of the said Marmaduke Teasdale< no role > appears on the back [..]
of the Bills preferred-
