Middlesex to Wit

The Information of Nicholas Welsh< no role > of No. 4 in Clerken=
=well Close in the said County Gentleman a Lodger
at Mr. Douglas's a Cabinet maker taken before
one this 16th. day of August 1786 .

Who being upon Oath saith that on Thursday the tenth day
of August instant at about Six or Seven o'Clock in the Evening, as
he was going to his Lodging at No. 4 in Clerkenwell Close aforesaid

Batchelor< no role > , at the end of Mutton Lane , in Hatton Street ; who
said "I think I have had the pleasure of seeing your Face before in
America " Informant replied it might be so That said Batchelor
thenreply'dsaid "I have had the pleasurd of dining with General
Cunningham at New York and asked after Major Cunningham
and whether they did not lodge at the same House", to which
Informant reply'd that they didThat said Batchelor then
told him, that he did not look well; and asked him to take
a Glass of Wine that Informant declined it That said Batchelor
then offer'd to take a Walk to his Lodgings, to see General Cunningham
That Informant and said Batchelor went to a Public House on the
opposite side of the Street, where they had some Rum and Water to
drink, in a little back Parlour That nobody was in the Room, when
they first went in, but another Man, came in soon afterwards, who
seemed not to be acquainted with the said Batchelor That
something passed between the Stranger, and said Batchelor, about
Gambling, but that he does not know what it was, nor does he know
whether they did Gamble or not That they drank about six
pennyworth or a Shillingsworth of Rum and Water there & Informant had
