day of May 1784 at the Parish of St.
Paul Covent Garden within the Liberty
of Westminster in the County of Midsex
upon an Inquisition touching the
death of Nicholas Casson< no role > lying dead
in the said Parish Liberty & County

James Loton< no role > of King Street in the Parish of
St. Margaret Westminster High Constable for
the City and Liberty Westminster on his Oath
saith That Yesterday a little after three
o'Clock in the afternoon after the Close of the
Poll for Members to sit in Parliament for
the City and Liberty of Westminster this Dept,
was in the Front of the Hastings in Covent
Garden in the Parish of St. Paul Covent Garden
with Mr. Wild High Constable of Holborn
Division, and Mr. Elliot High Constable of
the Tower Hamlets, and a great Number
of Petty Constables, Says that a Senffle
happened between a Black Man and
another Man, upon which Mr. Wild got over
the Front, of the Hustings among the Mob,
and Dept. followed and Quickd that so uffle
Says that Mr. Wild & this Dept. went forward
until they come to [..] a great Number of People Assembled
with Large Sticks agt. Bludgeons in their
Han [..] other with Marrow [..] and desired the People to disperse
Says that on Mr. Wild saying Good God, here
is a Man Knocked down, [..] this Dept.
saw the Deced lying down on the Ground upon
his Back, With his Head near the Channel
& near the Pump, the Deced not being able
to move or speak but Dept. saw no Blow says that some Person
or Persons there said that the Man was knocked
down, by a High Constable, or a Constable, the
Deced being a Constable for some part
of the Tower Hamlets Says that a
Gentleman came to Dept. and desired he,
would with draw his Constable which Dept.
said he would as soon as Deced was taken near of,
and the Gentleman said that car shod, be [..] of him
and that Dept. withdrawJames [..]
