The Information of Mary Baker< no role > and Sarah
Bassett
< no role > taken the 13th day of March 1784
before us two of His Majesty's Justices of the
Peace in and for the said Countythis

Who being upon their Oaths say and First the said Mary
Baker
< no role > for herself saith That she is Servant to Thomas Petch< no role >
of Field Gate White Chapel that her master keeps or lately
kept a Cook Shop there That the said Thomas Petch< no role > during
the time she this Informant hath lived with him has constantly
been used to Shut up his said Shop about the Hour of Ten
at Night except on Saturday Nights When the same is
kept open until between the Hours of Eleven and Twelve
That on Wednesday Evening last the 10th day of March
Instant her said Master the said Thomas Petch< no role > Ordered
his said Shop to be Shut up about a Quarter of an Hour
or Ten Minutes before Eight o'Clock and said That
She and her fellow Servant Sarah Bassett< no role > might go
out and See the said Sarah Bassetts< no role > Mother and
told them to be at home again between Ten and
Eleven o'Clock the same Evening, that he the said
Thomas Petch< no role > and her Mistress were both going out to Spend
the EveningThat She this Informant and the said Sarah
Bassett
< no role > her fellows Servant went out of the House
accordingly and left her Master Mistress, and Cousin
of their in the Kitchen or ShopThis Informant further
saith That they Generally light their Fires with Shaveings
andwhich Shavens are usually kept in the Cellar
That there were not any Shaveings left in the Kitchen
or Shop when she this Informant went out and is Positive
that if there had been any left there she must have
seen them Lastly saith that she this Informant and
her fellow Servant both went home together about
half an hour after ten o'Clock that [..] night and
found the House of her said Master full of People and
that the Wainscoat and Door of the Kitchen or Shop had been
on fire and a Quantity of Scorched Shavings laying
about on the opposite side of the Room to that of the
fire place.

And the said Sarah Bassett< no role > for herself saith That
she is also servant to the said Thomas Petch< no role > , That
