On the Prosecution of Jas: Matravers< no role >
For Felony

Thomas Griffith< no role > of Duke Street Lincolns Inn
Field, Son to the said Deft Maketh Oath That
Roger Gastrell< no role > late Foreman to the said Defendant is a Material Witness for the
Deft and without whose Testimony he verily believed
the said Deft Cannot Safely proceed to Tryall
And Saith that he this Deponent apprehending the
Tryall would not Come on this Day had not the said
Roger Gastrell here but as soon as he knew it
was to Come on, he went to search for him at
his Lodgings in Sheer Lane and at Mr Hendricks
in Bole Yard where the said Roger Occasionally
Works and at the House of Call where he thought
also to find him But notwithstanding his Utmost
Endeavours has not been able to meet with him
but does not doubt but he shall be able to find him
if a Sufficient Time is allowed for that fine purpose

Old Bailey the 13th. day of January
1774 }
