The Information of
Thomas Dicher< no role >
taken before me this 14th. day of
November 1774
Who being upon Oath says that about one or two o'Clock in the
Night between Friday the 4th. & Saturday the 5th. Instant he
took a Hackney Coach at Charles Street
Covent Garden
and ordered
the Driver to go to Chelsea
, that near the Sign of the Water works
on the Chelsea Road
this Informant ordered the Driver to stop
which he accordingly did and this Informant got out of the
Coach, that the Driver demanded five Shillings as his fare
which this Informant refused to pay but gave him three
Shillings, that immediately a person whom this Informant
had not sure before jumped from the Boot of the Coach
and seized this Informant by the Collar, that the Driver
of the said Coach then knocked this Informant down and
the said two persons robbed this Informant of his Metal
Watch and a few Shillings in Money, that when this Informant
got out of the said Coach the Driver doubed over the Number with
Dirt so that this Informant could not read it, and
immediately after the said Robbery both the said Persons
got upon the Coach Box and drove away towards London
And this Informant further says that a person now present
who calls himself William Clifton< no role >
is one of the persons who
robbed this Informant as aforesaid to wit the person who
Jumped from the Boot of the Coach when the Driver
seized hold of this Informant as aforesaid
