The Information of Thomas Darby< no role >
taken before Us thereof his Majestys
Justices of the peace for the said County

Who being upon Oath saith that he is one of the
Watchman of the parish of Saint Mary Le Bone
that being upon his Duty on Monday Morning
last about there o Clock in Fitch field of next & the
Corner of little portland Street he heard his
Brother Watchman Samuel Bovinton Ring his
Rattle in Mortimer Street & he Immediately
went to his Assistance and saw three persons
now present who call themselves John Dale< no role >
Robert Street< no role > and John Smith< no role > and a Lamplight
with Bovingtonthe said Street had a Bag
upon his Back & this Informant saw some
Iron Work appear out of the Mouth of the Bag
and from whowhich Induced this Informt to think
that it might be an Engine for Coming he having
seen something like it produced at the Old Bailey
this Informt. Immediately seized Street by
the Collar & told him that he was his prisoner
at this time Smith was got a little before
upon which this Informant called to Bovington
desired him to secure Smith & he would take
Care of Street then Bovington Collared Smith
and Rang his Rattle again and two at the Watchman
came up this Informant heard Bovington desire
those Watchmen to secure Dale Notwithstanding
which Dale went away this Informant further
saith that in going down Mortimer Street towards
the Watchouseshort if he in RobertStreet sayd
that if he must go to prison he would not carry
the Lead any further upon which he set it down
and Mr Clue one of the Watchman took it up
& Carried it to the Watch house and saith that
the Engine now produced is the same [..] which
