taken before us this 26th. day of
November 1766
Who being upon Oath says that on Saturday last about
two o'Clock he had feloniously Stolen out of his one pair
of Stairs Room upwards of Twenty Pounds in Cash
amongst which was about five Guineas in Silver and
a Particular nine Shillings piece of Gold says that about
this time James Poynton< no role >
now in Custody came into this
Informants house in company with another Person
who had a Glass of Ginn and then went along the Passage
as this Informt. then Thought with Intent to go through
into Marygould Court
, and that said Poynton called
for a Pint of Beer and began to ask him many
Questions about Henry Whittaker< no role >
a Bailiff
as to where
he lived whether he was then an Officer his and said
he had not seen said Whittaker for three four Years
also talked about Longbottom the Officer and in the
whole kept this Informant in Conversation for about
a Quarter of an hour, says that presently after said
Poynton went away he found himself Robbed as aforesaid
says that a Nine Shilling piece found upon said Poynton
when he was Apprehended he believes to be the Nine
Shilling piece which was part of the Money [..]
Stolen as aforesaid and this Informants property and
therefore for this and other reasons he hath curse to
suspect and doth suspect and verily believe that
the said James Poynton< no role >
was concerned in feloniously
Stealing the aforesaid Sum of Twenty pounds and
upwards and of his house
