It being represented to this Court that Mr Newman (who has brought a
Bill of Receive against the Governors of Bethlem Hospital to set a side a Decemr
formerly made in a Cause relating to the Estate late of Edward Backham< no role > Esqr . deced
who by his Will desired the same to the said Hospital is preparing another
Bill to discover what real Estates the said Hospital is possessed of and how
much the said Governors have licence to hold in Mortmain for the benefit
of the said HospitalIt is Ordered That the Clerk do lay before the-
next Court after the Election Feast an Account of what real Estates belong to the
said Hospital & to what Value & how much the Governor have licence to hold in [..]

The Court being acquainted That Sarah Pennell< no role > a poor Woman (whose Husband
was born in the Precinct of Bridewell Hospital ) having been sent by the Lord Mayor
to the parish of St Brides with her Male Child about five years old The Churchwardens
of the said parish had attented the Comittee of this House on the 19th of April last
who not being able to find that the Husband of the said Sarah Pennell< no role > had gained any
other legal Settlement desired the sd Churchwardens to keep her and her said Child
in their parish Work house at the Charge of this HospitalAnd that Mr John
Linter one of the present Churchwardens had delivered in a Bill of £2.18..6
for keeping them thirteen Weeks at 4s..6d P Week, And desired directions about
Cloathing themIt is Ordered that the Steward do pay the and £2..18..6
and desire the Churchwardens to provide such necessary Cloathing for the said
Sarah Pennel and her Child as they do for their own poor, And that the Steward
do pay for the same./.

This Court taking into Consideration the condition of that miserable and most
compassionate part of the Charity under their Care The Incurables whose Friends
and Relations have hitherto paid five Shillings & Week each towards their
support and being informed by Mr. Walter Pryse< no role > and Mr Edward Dodd< no role > tree
of the Auditors of the Accounts that from the late Contribution of several
Charitable and will disposed persons they are of Opinion that it may be proper
if this Court thinks fill to order a reduction of the payment for the Incurables
from five Shillings P Week to two Shillings and six pence P Week and
Mr. Tayler being called upon for his Opinion declared That the the [..]
Re [..] of the Hospital are not sufficient to defray the Annual expences yet
be thought the increase of the Contingent benefactions since the Exertion of the
Building for Incurables was a sufficient encouragement to make the Tryal of such
a reduction for a yearIt is therefore Ordered N [..] ne Contraticate that
from Midsummer last to next Midsummer no more be taken towards the
Maintenance of each Incurable Petient then two Shillings and six pence P Week./.
