now produced to the Committee in Answer to the two following Queries

"Whether the Justices of the peace in Session are
"Authorized by the Act of 24th. Geo:3d. to raise Money
"on the Bonds there specified for the purchase of Lands
"to build a House of Correction"

"This Statute of the 24th. George 3d. is not accurately penned but I
"think upon the true Construction of the several Statutes of 17th. Geo 2d. the 22d.
"Geo; 3d. and this Statute The Justices of the peace are authorized to raise Money
"on the Securities specified as well for the purchase of Land to build an House of
"Correction upon, as for the Building such House when the Estimate including
"the Value of the Scite of the House exceeds one half of the County Rate under the
"General Authority given them to remove and build Etc"

"Whether the Act 17th. Geo: 2d. does continue in force
"to enable the Justices in Sessions ( the proper Forms
"of Presentment Etc required by the said Act having
"been observed) to levy the Sum of Money necessary for
"the purchase of such Lands such Sum being more
"than half the usual County Rate notwithstanding
"the Clause respecting Charges on the County Rate in
"the Act of the 24th. of George 3d."
