Examination TextAbigail Pye aged 71 years and upwards lodging at Mrs. Carwell's in Bayly's Alley in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the widow of Francis Pye (who has been dead about 13 years) to whom she was married at the Fleet about 48 years ago, that he was a Painter by trade and lived in and rented a house in Whitcombe Court in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of about two years at the yearly rent of 10 pounds besides taxes, quitted the same about 33 years [ago] and never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year or paid any parish taxes since, nor hath she this Examinant nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since her said husband's death. Sworn the 22nd Day of September 1749 before James Fraser.
