Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Mitchell widow destitute of lodging taken upon oath this 14th Day of August 1752. This Examinant upon her oath saith that she is 30 years of age and upwards and is the widow of Cornelius Mitchell (who died about eight years ago) to whom she was married the Fleet [blank] years ago, that she hath heard her husband say that when he was single and unmarried he was a yearly hired servant to Mr John Larner a Plumber in Phenix Alley in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields and there served him for the space of one year and three quarters at the yearly wages of 5 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about 36 years ago and never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together afterwards, nor hath she this Examinant since the death of her said husband, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and a Captain [blank] Seymour, living at Madame Seymour's at Woodford in the County of Essex, had carnal knowledge of her body about the month of April last upon Epping Forrest upon the ground behind Woodford Workhouse, and there and several times afterwards upon different parts of the forrest at which or one of which times he the said Captain [blank] Seymour did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said Captain [blank] Seymour is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
