Examination TextThe Examination of Hester Withey singlewoman lodging with her mother Mr Tall's in that part of Rose Street which is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 21st Day of July 1764. The Examinant upon her oath saith that she is 21 years of age, that she never was married bound an apprentice rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together, that her father John Withey was an [Hovier] by trade and lived in and rented an house for several years in Old Round Court within the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields at the yearly rent of 20 pounds besides taxes and never did any act to gain a subsequent settlement, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Thomas Cammage who is a Peruke Maker by trade and is to be found at the Bell and Dragon in Vine Street had carnal knowledge of her body some time in or about the month of November in the Kitchin of the house of Mr McAdams in Cleveland Row St. James's and frequently afterwards at the same place at which or one of which times he the said Thomas Cammage did beget her with child or children of which she now goeth with and is pregnant, and that he the said Thomas Cammage is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year above mentioned before Thomas Balack.
