Examination TextThe Examination of Jane Best lodging in the Horse and Dolphin Yard in St Martin Street in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken upon oath this 25th day of May 1764. This Examinant on her oath saith that her father Harry Best (who died about nine years ago) was a Chairman and lived in and rented an house in Blue Cross Street in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields the space of nine years at the yearly rent of 20 pounds besides taxes, that he her said father never kept house (except in One Tun Alley in the Strand in the said Parish) rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes after he quitted the said house in One Tun Alley, that by a certificate that this Examinant hath in her custody signifyes that her father was married at the Fleet to Mary his wife who is also deceased by whom he hath one son to wit Richard aged 12 years and upwards now with this Examinant, that he the said Richard never was bound an apprentice nor was a yearly hired servant. Sworn the day and year abovesaid before Benjamin Cox.
