Examination TextMary Mandell aged 37 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields upon her oath saith that she is the wife of Charles Nicholas Mandell (gone from her) to whom she was married at the Fleet about 17 years ago, that her said husband never was bred to any trade, that he lived in and rented an house in Peters Court in St Martin's Lane in the Parish aforesaid for the space of five years at the yearly rent of 21 pounds besides taxes, that her said husband hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes since he quitted the said house in Peters Court to this Examinant's knowledge, that she hath two children living by her said husband to wit Philip aged 14 years and upwards, now servant at a public house in Fleet Street, and John Christian aged four years and upwards now with this Examinant. Taken in the workhouse of 25th day of June 1764.
