Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Earnshaw singlewoman lodging at a Shoemaker's in James Street near the Haymarket within the Parish of St Martin in the Fields in the liberty of Westminster and County of Middlesex taken upon oath the eighth day of March 1765. This Examinant upon her oath saith that she years 27 years of age and never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mrs Mary Vaughan a Milliner in Suffolk Street in this the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of 13 months at the yearly wages of 7 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about fortnight, and hath not done any act to gain a subsequent settlement, And this Examinant upon her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Alexander Brown who is at present a Servant to Colonel Singleton, who lodges at Mr Broadstair's in Suffolk Street aforesaid had carnal knowledge of her body in the month of July last in the Kitchen at the said Mrs Vaughan's house and frequently afterwards in the same house at which or one of which times he the said Alexander Brown did beget her with child or children she of which she now goeth and is pregnant, and that he the said Alexander Brown is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the Day and year abovesaid before Thomas Kynaston.
