Examination TextJames Methuen aged about 42 years in the parish of St. Martin in the Fields passed from the parish of Bradford in the county of Wilts. upon his oath saith that he was bound an apprentice (by the officers of the Parish of Bradford aforesaid) by an indenture (but whether the said indenture was for seven years or until the said apprentice should attain the age of 24 years he this Examinant cannot tell) to Mr Joseph Phillips a Woollen Draper in that part of Bear Street which is in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields aforesaid, and there served his said Master about three years and then they (this Examinant and the said Joseph Phillips) parted by consent, that he this Examinant never kept house rented tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since he quitted the said Mr Phillips' service, that he was married to his present wife Mary at the Parish Church of Bradford aforesaid about two years ago by whom he hath one child living to wit James aged about two months now with this Examinant. Sworn the 30th Day of July 1767 before Peter Planck.
