Examination TextThe Examination of Hannah Harper in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Saviour Southwark in the County of Surry taken upon oath this [blank] Day of [blank] in the year of our Lord 1768. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 22 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Major a Furrier in Panton Street in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields for the space of one year and five months at the yearly wages of 6 pounds one guinea for tea diet and lodging, quitted the same about one year and an half ago, that she never kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor hath been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now Great with child or children which these are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Bolton late a Porter to Mr Coffin, Hop Merchant, in the Borough (but is now absconded) did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Bolton is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Taken in the workhouse the sixth Day of June 1768.
