Examination TextCatherine Goodchild aged 30 years in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields passed from the Parish of St Giles in the Fields in the County of Middlesex upon her oath saith that she is the wife Thomas Goodchild (gone to sea) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Giles in the Fields aforesaid the 30th Day of April last, that her said husband never was bound an apprentice kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor was a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together to this Examinant's knowledge, that her husband hath informed her that his father was a Woollen Draper and lived in and rented an house near Charing Cross in the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, but how long he kept the said house what rent he paid for the same nor when quitted it she this Examinant cannot tell, that he never kept house rented tenement of 10 pounds by the year nor paid any parish taxes elsewhere to this Examinant's knowledge, that she hath one child living by her said husband to wit Thomas aged seven weeks now with this Examinant. Taken in the workhouse the sixth Day of February 1771.
