Examination TextThe Examination of Elizabeth Young in the workhouse of and in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 15th Day of October in the year of our Lord 1781. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is about 27 years of age, that she never was married nor bound an apprentice, that she was a yearly hired servant to William Hyde Esq in St Martin's Street in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one year and an half all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 6 pounds diet and lodging, quitted the same about May in the year 1780, that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since, And this Examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that John Taylor a Brewer's Servant lodging at No.3 in White Lyon Court in White Lyon Street by the Seven Dials had carnal knowledge of her body some time in the month of March last in a loft belonging to Mr Wilson's Brewhouse in Bowle Yard St Giles's and several times afterwards at the said Mr Wilson's house at which time or one of which times he the said John Taylor did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of, and that he the said John Taylor is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the day and year first above written before William Hyde.
