Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Hill lodging at Simon Howes a Plaisterer in Bayly's Alley in the Strand in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 18th Day of December 1777. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 43 years of age, that she never was married (except to Eshan Stoakes a Painter now in Laystall Street who had another wife living at the time he intermarried with this Examinant as she hath been informed and as he the said Eshan Stoakes hath declared before Mr Wade Vestry Clerk of the Parish of St. George the Martyr), that she this Examinant lived in and rented an apartment in Durham Yard in the Parish aforesaid of the rent of 11 pounds per annum for the space of 15 months, quitted the same apartment about 20 years ago, that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year (except in Half Moon Street in the Strand) paid any parish taxes nor been yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since.
