Examination TextMary Rice aged about 61 years Lodging at one Mrs. Hammond's in Edwards's Court in Whitcomb Street Hedge Lane, Saith she is the Widow of Wm. Rice who died about 35 years ago, That she was married to him in Dublin in Ireland about 36 years ago, Saith he was an Officer in King James's army, That he never was in England, Saith she was born in Nantwich in Cheshire, That she was a Yearly hired Servant (having then no Children living) to one Mr. Davis a Coachmaker who lived next door to the Crown & Sceptre Tavern in St. Martin's Lane seven years, had £7 p. ann. Wages Diet & Lodging, left the same about 20 Years ago, never a yearly hired Servant since but followed Clear Starching [sic] ever since, kept house in Edwards's Court aforesaid 8 years paid £8 p. ann. Rent but no parish Taxes, never married since her said Husband died.
