Examination TextThe Examination of Martha Emmerson a Rogue and Vagabond apprehended by William Mitchell one of the Bedels of the Parish of St Martin in the Fields within the Liberty of Westminster in the County of Middlesex and brought before me one of his Majesty's Justices of the Peace for the Liberty of Westminster aforesaid, taken this eighth day of February in the year of our Lord 1776. This examinant on her oath saith that she is 23 years of age, that she is the wife of William Emmerson (gone abroad) to whom she was married at the Parish Church of St Martin in the Fields the 18th of July 1773, that her said husband was born at St Edmunds Bury [sic] in the County of Suffolk as he her said husband hath informed this examinant, that her said husband never did any act to gain a subsequent settlement to this examinant's knowledge. Sworn the Day and year above written before Thomas Bullard.
