Examination TextThe Examination of Ann Davis lodging at [blank] in Moor's Yard in the Parish of St Martin in the Fields taken this 20th Day of January 1776. This Examinant on her oath saith that she is 25 years of age, that she never was married, that she was a yearly hired servant to Mr Crockat at Pons Coffee House in Castle Street in the Parish aforesaid for the space of one year and three months all under one hiring at the yearly wages of 9 pounds three shillings diet and lodging quitted the same about 12 months ago, that she hath not kept house rented a tenement of 10 pounds by the year paid any parish taxes nor been a yearly hired servant in any one place for 12 months together since. And this examinant on her voluntary oath further saith that she is now big with child or children which is or are likely to be born a bastard or bastards and to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the Fields, and that Joseph Armstrong late a Waiter at Pons Coffee House but is now absconded had carnal knowledge of her body the latter end of the month of May or the beginning of the month of June last on a bed in the Garret at the house of Mr Smith a Hosier the corner of Dukes Court by the Mews and one other time after at which or one of which times he the said Joseph Armstrong did beget her with child or children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and that he the said Joseph Armstrong is the true and only father thereof and no man else. Sworn the 25th Day of January 1776 before John Hale.
