Examination TextThe Examination of Anne Murray Singlewoman taken upon Oath this Day of in the year of our Lord 1737 Who upon her Voluntary Oath Saith she is about twenty ffour years old that she never was marryed that she was born at Edinburgh in Scotland from whence she came to London about a year ago and never lived in any Service never kept any house rented ten pounds by the year or paid any parish Taxes that on Wednesday the seventh day of this Instant December she was delivered of a male bastard child (since christened John) in the workhouse of and in the parish of St Martin in the ffields in the liberty of Wetmr in the County of Midlx which is become chargeable to the same Parish and that one William Sinclair a Mate of a Ship lately gone to India had sometime in or about the month of March last past the Carnal Knowledge of her Body in a private Room at one Alehouse in the Strand above York Buildings at which time he begot on her Body the said male bastard Child and that he the said William Sinclair is the true and only ffather thereof and no man else And likewise Saith that she knoweth not what Ship the said William Sinclair did or doth belong to nor to which of the Indias he is now gone Sworn the Day and Year aforesaid before
