Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Darvel Singlewoman taken upon Oath this Day of 1737 Who upon her Voluntary Oath saith that she is about thirty two years old that she never was marryed nor bound an Apprentice that she was a yearly hired Servant to one Mr Nelson a Barber and Perukemaker in Hedge Lane in the Parish of St Martin in the ffields whom she there served the Space of eight years had forty shillings by the year Wages and Diet and Lodging came thence near nine years ago and hath never lived a year in any Service since nor ever kept house rented ten pounds by the year or paid any parish Taxes And also saith that she is now great with Child which when bor is likely to be born a Bastard or Bastards and to become chargeable to the said parish of St Martin in the ffields and that one Patrick Abbot a Porter and Shoeblacker in St Martin's Court had some short time after Christmas last the Carnal Knowledge of her Body in a Cellar belonging to a house in the Woodyard in Long Acre in the Parish aforesaid and several times afterwards at her own Lodgings being a Garret at a Clogmaker's in Little St Andrew Street in the Parish of St Giles in the ffields at one of which times he begot her with child of the Child or Children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and that he the said Patrick Abbot is the true and only ffather thereof and no man else Sworn the day of 1737
