Examination TextThe Examination of Grace Gray an Singlewoman taken on Oath this Thirtyeth Day of July One Thousand Seven hundred and Thirty Six Who on her Oath Saith that she is about twenty five years of age and that she was on Tuesday the twenty ninth day of June last past Delivered of a female Bastard Child at the Workhouse in the parish St Martin in the ffields Since christened Mary and which dyed the 5th Day of this Inst July and was chargeable from burden to the said Parish And this Examinant ffurther on her voluntary Oath Saith that one William hitchcock a Linnen draper who now Lives at the Golden key in the Borough of Southwark had carnal knowledge of her Body on a Bed in a Room up two pair of Stairs Backwards at the house of one Mrs Longleys being the Sign of the Crown in Drury Lane with whom this Examinant lived a Servant and Severall times afterwards had Carnall knowledge of her Body as well in the Bed in the aforesaid Room as in a Room one pair of Stairs forwards of the said house and one at the Gray hound Inn in Drury Lane aforesaid in or about the Month of September Last And she also further on her oath Saith that he the said William hitchcock is the True and Real ffather of the sd female Bastard Child so born of her Body as aforesaid Sworn the Day and Year above written before Thos DeVeil Jas: Fraser Grace Gray
