Examination TextThe Examination of Mary Callow Singlewoman (pass'd from the Parish of St James within the Liberty of Westminster) taken upon Oath this 22d Day of June in the Year of our Lord 1736 Who upon her Oath saith she is about Twenty Years old that she never was marryed that she was bound an Apprentice by Indenture for five years to one Mrs Arundell a Mantuamaker in Hemings Row in the Parish of Saint Martin in the ffields which she served out there and lodged and boarded at her Mistresses all the Time and that her Apprenticeship expired about three or four years ago and then was a yearly hired Servant to one Mrs Buckle who lodged at Mrs Mackenzies in the haymarket whom she served a Twelvemonth had three Pounds yearly Wages Diet and Lodging and came thence about two Years since and never kept House rented ten Pounds by the year paid any parish Taxes or was a yearly hired Servant the Space of a Twelvemonth in any one Service since And also upon her Voluntary Oath saith that she is now great with Child and that the same when born is or are likely to become chargeable to the said Parish of St Martin in the ffields and that one William Chandler now or lately working as a Journeyman with one a Taylor at a Linnen Drapers in Brewer Street in the Parish of St James Westminster and who now or lately lodged with one Mrs Bannister in Swan Yard in the Parish of St Mary le Strand had sometime in or about the month of January last past the Carnal Knowledge of her Body at the House of one Mrs Carter who now keeps the Sign of the Sun and Apple Tree in White hart Yard in the parish of St Mary Le Strand aforesaid (with whom she then lived as a Servant) in the Room on the one pair of Stairs ffloor forwards of the House of the said Mrs Carter in White Hart Yard aforesaid and several Times afterwards at other Places at which or one of which Times he begot her with Child of the Child or Children she now goeth with and is pregnant of and further saith that he the said William Chandler is the true and only ffather thereof and no man else Sworn the Day and Year beforewritten Before Jas Fraser The mark of Mary Callow
